A History Built on a Foundation of Strength
As a fundamental unit of the Episcopal Church, the Diocese of Florida has acted as a steward of the Good News and Episcopal doctrine. Since our founding as Florida’s first Diocese in 1838, we have embraced 25 counties, formed 76 active congregations and welcomed over 28,000 members through our offering of sacraments, planting of churches and mission, and recruitment of clergy and lay members. Together, through your devotion and support, we are now achieving things that could have never been accomplished alone or on a congregational level.
Together, We’re Touching the Lives of Many
The Diocese of Florida serves as a steward of assets and is responsible for the care and use of church resources. We have placed a premium on Christian formation and education, establishing 12 parochial schools, launching a premier professional development program, The Bishop’s Institute for Ministry and Leadership, supporting chapel programming at 3 of the state’s largest universities—University of Florida, Florida State University, and University of North Florida, and sustaining the leadership of The University of the South at Sewanee. In recent years, through the support of members like you, we’ve also been able to develop groundbreaking ministries to serve the urban and rural poor, operated one of the largest, most active prison ministries in the nation, and rescued and rebuilt congregations throughout the Diocese and in our companion Diocese of Cuba. Through the continuing care of exceptional facilities at Camp Weed & Cerveny Conference Center, we have developed exceptional educational, spiritual renewal, and recreational programs for children, youth, and adults. By investing in clergy and lay leadership, we will be bettering our children and young adults not only by improving and expanding facilities to serve them, but also by supporting Christian formation and ministries especially tailored to meet their needs in a changing world.
Our Vision is Leading us to an Even Brighter Future
Although we have accomplished much, God’s call to transform ourselves and the world around us continues. Through Procession—Unified In Mission, we must support the continued growth of a strong, resilient, growing, and joyful Diocesan community, as we bond together through Christian formation, youth ministry, identification and development of lay and clergy leadership, and service to those in need. Through ongoing giving we can allow for the physical and spiritual growth of our ministries and those who support them. It is our desire to extend our reach to groups in need who have remained steadfast in their journey to find God in our Diocese, like those who have felt abandoned by the Church and those who are seeking the hope of Christ’s redeeming love. This inclusive approach combined with our youth and outreach ministries today will pave a bright path for the generations to come.
Join Procession—Unified In Mission
In order to fulfill God’s call to our future ministry, we are continuing our ambitious and successful effort to raise funds for our Diocesan vision of increased growth and strong evangelism through the Diocese of Florida Foundation’s campaign, Procession—Unified In Mission. With over $13 million already received in gifts and pledges, we are encouraging everyone in our Diocese as well as those beyond our region who have an interest in supporting our vision, to invest in this bold fundraising initiative. This campaign will begin a legacy of renewed Diocesan ambition to grow more faithful and Christ-filled disciples who will be called to transform the world. Regardless of the donation amount, we encourage your faithful generosity.
